Blackhawks Goalie Petr Mrazek Exits Early vs. Bruins
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Mrazek stopped all 16 shots he saw before leaving the game.

The Chicago Blackhawks needed a mid-game goalie change Tuesday against the Boston Bruins. Petr Mrazek, the starting netminder, exited midway second period.

Mrazek got off to an excellent start against the best team in the NHL. Through 28-plus minutes of play, he stopped all 16 shots he saw.

However, Mrazek took a shot to the mask off the stick of Bruins' defenseman Dmitry Orlov, which may have caused the discomfort. He eventually exited the game after stopping a shot by Trent Frederic with just over 11 minutes remaining in the middle frame.

With Mrazek injured, Alex Stalock came off the bench and took over in goal for the Blackhawks.

At the start of the third period, the Chicago Blackhawks confirmed that Petr Mrazek would not return to Tuesday's game.

UPDATE: 3/14/23, 10:47 PM CT - Head coach Luke Richardson said Petr Mrazek is dealing with a groin injury, which will keep him out for the start of the Blackhawks' upcoming road trip. However, the veteran netminder could return at some point during the five-game swing.
